Sustainability from the Source: Starting with a Sustainable Feedstock
Our patented bio-fermentation process starts with sustainable sugarcane. This renewable sugarcane feedstock is grown irrigation-free in coastal Brazil — far from the rainforest. As Brazil is the world leader in sugarcane production (forecasted to produce over 36M tons of sugarcane in 2023), we have a stable, continuous supply of rapidly renewable sugarcane. To decrease our carbon footprint, we recently opened a new bio-fermentation facility in Barra Bonita. The proximity between the sugarcane mills and our bio-fermentation plant minimizes the fossil fuels used in transport.
Third-Party Verified for Ethical, Sustainable Supply Chains
Bonsucro, a World Wildlife Fund-founded NGO, certifies fair treatment and wages — as well as sustainability — for all along the sugarcane supply chain.
Upcycling and Repurposing for a Better Planet
The patented technology behind our bio-fermentation manufacturing process ensures each drop of sugar is used as effectively as possible. Any waste products are repurposed:
- 60% of the water is recycled
- Spent yeast are applied as fertilizer
- Bagasse is used to create steam power for bio-fermentation and the local power grid

Neossance™ Squalane
A Clean Beauty Case Study
Sugarcane bio-fermentation creates an impressively sustainable solution for traditional ingredients like Squalane. Our sugarcane-derived Neossance Squalane substitutes for shark-derived Squalane to replace the demand for millions of sharks yearly.
Sugarcane Is Beauty’s Optimal Sustainable Feedstock
Compared to other plant-derived Squalane, Neossance Squalane conserves more resources:
- 585X less land than olive-derived Squalane
- 52X less water consumption than olive-derived Squalane
- Lower carbon footprint
