EMERYVILLE, Calif., March 9, 2017 — Amyris, Inc. (Nasdaq:AMRS), the industrial bioscience company, today announced it has completed the formation of a previously announced joint venture with NIKKOL GROUP (“NIKKOL”), a leading Japanese cosmetic specialty chemical provider. The 50-50 joint venture will now operate globally under the brand name Aprinnova with the goal of continuing to develop and make available sustainable cosmetic ingredient solutions for responsible brands worldwide.

“We are delighted with the rapid progress we’ve made since initially announcing plans to establish the joint venture just a few weeks ago with our partner, NIKKOL,” said John Melo, Amyris President and CEO. “Aprinnova will continue its mission of providing innovative renewable cosmetic ingredients to the world’s finest brands and with NIKKOL’s support achieve further growth and market penetration.”

“As leading cosmetic brands further adopt renewable ingredients in response to consumer demand and to support their reputation for innovation, Aprinnova will continue to be a leading supply source for them,” said Caroline Hadfield, Senior Vice President of Personal Care at Amyris. “With the product development resources provided by NIKKOL and Amyris’s ability to create disruptive, high-performance products, Aprinnova will be a force for innovation in the cosmetic market.”

“We are pleased to have joined forces with Amyris for continued success in the markets we serve,” said Shizuo Ukaji, President and CEO of Nikko Chemicals Co., Ltd. in NIKKOL. “Our long-term relationship has enabled us to move quickly in completing formation of the joint venture and this relationship will serve us well in serving our customers and growing Aprinnova’s presence worldwide.”

Products in the Aprinnova joint venture include Neossance™ Squalane and Neossance™ Hemisqualane, which the joint venture will sell through its existing distribution channels in the US, EU, LATAM and Korea markets. Nikko will continue to sell its “Sugar Squalane” brand of emollients in Japan, China and Southeast Asia.

These products will continue to be manufactured at an existing facility in Leland, NC, held in the joint venture, which has been producing high-quality squalane since 2012. With this now wholly owned, vertically integrated manufacturing facility the joint venture will be able to fully leverage the quality its products are known for as a competitive advantage and a means to support the exacting requirements of leading brands.

Aprinnova will be exhibiting at the in-cosmetics tradeshow at booth MM40 in London April 4-6, 2017.  For more information about Aprinnova please visit www.aprinnova.com
